  • He had a successful run in domestic cricket with over ten thousand first-class runs at an average of more than 40 including 23 hundreds and 44 fifties.
  • His Test debut came about almost nine years after his first-class initiation when India toured England in 1974. Outperforming other top-order batsmen, he amassed 774 runs averaging just short of fifty during that tour.
